About ELEMNT
Every map. Every layer. One platform.
ELEMNT is the cloud-native geospatial data platform: storage on open formats, planetary-scale delivery with no tile server, and open standards (OGC API Features, Style JSON) your tools already speak. Free during early access.
Why we exist
Three problems kept showing up in every serious mapping project we touched.
The first is the invoice. Per-request map billing punishes success: traffic spikes, the bill spikes, and most platforms will alert you about it rather than stop it. Teams budget for infrastructure and end up budgeting for surprises.
The second is the exit. Proprietary tile formats and SDKs make leaving expensive by design. Your data goes in easily. Getting it out, in a form another tool can read, is the part nobody demos.
The third is the question every auditor eventually asks: who changed what, and when? Most geospatial platforms cannot answer it. For a marketing map that’s an inconvenience. For a utility network, a land registry, or a climate dataset, it’s disqualifying.
ELEMNT exists because these are architecture problems, not pricing-page problems. So we rebuilt the architecture.
What we build
- Cloud-native delivery on open formats. PMTiles and GeoParquet served straight from object storage through a CDN, OGC API compliant. A basemap is one file, not millions of tiles. No tile-server fleet to babysit.
- No lock-in, by design. Bring the data you already have: it goes in as open formats, stays in open formats, and exports back out in the same formats any time you ask. Datastore drivers (BigQuery, ClickHouse, MongoDB) are on the roadmap, so you will be able to connect the datastore you already run instead of migrating it.
- Agent access is on the roadmap: Model Context Protocol support, so AI tools can speak geospatial directly. Not shipped yet, and we say so.
And one thing we’re building next, in the open: Git-style data versioning (branch, diff, merge, rollback) reaches general availability in Q4 2026, with real-time collaborative editing in Q1 2027. Neither ships today. We’d rather tell you that than pretend.
How we work
- Open formats first. If you ever want to leave, your data is already in formats the rest of the ecosystem reads. We think lock-in is a bug, not a business model.
- Honest numbers. Every figure we publish is sourced or labeled as an illustrative pre-pricing model. No invented customers, no fake benchmarks, no testimonials we didn’t earn.
- Show, don’t pitch. Before launch we shipped two free, no-signup tools: geodebug.io, which debugs eleven kinds of map service in one URL box, and Earth Traffic, which replays 3.4 billion GPS points of a country’s road network, hour by hour, in a browser tab. Both run on the same platform we’re about to open. That’s the demo.
The team behind ELEMNT
ELEMNT is built by a small team of geospatial and infrastructure engineers who have spent years running production mapping systems for organizations that cannot afford wrong answers, and who got tired of explaining surprise invoices and unanswerable audit questions.
